MLA Format,  Works Cited, Citations 

THE ENTIRE CLASS ( BOTH "SHARKS" AND " STINGRAYS" )  WILL COLLABORATE ON 10/12 

Samantha- Please remind me to perform a scratch outline for the class after the workshop !  

REVIEW THE ASSIGNMENT! Please think about your category of interest. Think about your sources. They must be from class - Can be from PUB 1 or a VIDEO ( Both Acceptable Sources)

If you want to incorporate a third source and it is not from class - YOU CAN DO SO

Share the source with me in class and I will approve it. 

AS LONG AS IT IS A CREDIBLE SOURCE !!! 

 If it comes from another discipline ( sociology , psychology ) You can use it!

Remember - This is an addition to the two from class ! 

PART 2 - INTRODUCTION TO Education & Identity  

As we embark on the Education and Identity segment we first take a look at perspective and perception!!!

Part I:
Actively Read " Of My Friend Hector and My Achilles Heel" by Michael Kaufman  Textbook pg. 145 I Also posted it as a link!!!

Answer the following in your notebook:
Background: Kaufman's purpose is to demonstrate how easily it is to form prejudices and segregate oneself from other people based on assumptions.
* Keep the concept of perspective in mind while reading this piece. Define perspective . Provide a concrete example of perspective based on the outside world (something you learned about or read about... this can be an example based on current events, pop culture, etc.. Your connections should be academic) Now take that example and apply it to Kaufman's piece.

1. Identify one theme in the article. It can be a statement of theme.  Discuss this theme as it relates to perspective and prejudice in one paragraph.  Use in text citation. For instance, "It is imperative that you incorporate concrete examples into your expository paragraphs" (Brady 54).  Note that the period goes after my name and the parentheses.. Why? B/c the statement belongs to the source you are giving credit.

2. What do you think of Kaufman? What did you like about his essay? Can you relate anything from Kaufman's article to  life (something you heard about? read about? learned about?) ?



Part II:  - Think about YOUR PAPER TOPIC!!!!

Begin to brainstorm Ideas over the weekend !
