  1. In the article “Two Ways to Belong in America” by Bharati Mukherjee she talks about her sister and her experience when they first migrated to the United States in the early 1960s to further their education. Bharati explains that for an immigrant to belong in America, you either remain an exile or embrace the American culture. Bharati had been influenced by the American culture and decided to embrace it while her sister Mira is reluctant to embrace the American culture.

  2. For the past century many talks and arguments have came up about what makes a person "assimilate" in Amercia. For years people who were born in America look at others from different cultures as outsiders, failing to learn about where they came from, or the things they belive in. American citizens feel as if religion, clothing, or even language can make you stand out as a threat to their cultural traditions.

  3. In the article “What it takes to Belong in America” it explains the behind the scenes of immigrants coming to America. Two sisters come to America to better themselves and their lives with a plan they made before migrating. After spending some time here and meeting new people their plans completely changed, even though things changed one sister has adapted to the American culture very easily while the other is still sticking to her Indian roots and having trouble blending in.
