Part II: In your NOTEBOOK ( Total 4 paragraphs)

Write a THESIS based on reading Mukherjee's article? (see Thesis lesson) REMINDER- YOU should develop a 2-3 sentence statement based on reading the article.

What questions come to mind when reading this article? What are the main points the author is trying to convey? Relate this to the theme of identity. Be specific and provide examples. Think about the ideas presented in my lectures and class discussions.

Mukherjee says " The price that the immigrant willingly pays, and that the exile avoids is the trauma of self - transformation."  What does she mean by this?

What does it mean to transform? Have you ever experienced self transformation? If so, How?

* SCHOLARS!! - Pretend you are writing a paper on Assimilation and Acculturation as it relates to Immigrant Identity in the 20th and 21st century. CREATE A THESIS BASED ON THE ARTICLE AND THE VIDEO. THIS WILL TAKE TIME AND EFFORT BE CREATIVE. (you will have to use your notes for both the video and the article!  Think about my lecture in class and most important, be creative! You are a scholar use your creative and cognitive abilities!


Research Part III- Can you find an article on immigration or acculturation based on your culture?
search websites such as NPR, CNN, NY Times , OR TIMES MAgazine. See what you come up with. If you find a short article about let us say " Italians and Immigration in the 21st Century" by John Doe, print it and bring it to class.

Note - You do not have to do extensive research. I would prefer you take interest in this part and look for an article based on your cultural background that interests you. The article can be short. Just read it and bring it to class to share with us!! PURPOSE FOR LEARNING- Evaluate Sources
