Part I - ACTIVELY Read " Unforgettable Miss Bessie" by Carl T. Rowan p. 166 
AND "I Just Wanna Be Average" by Mike Rose p. 183

Answer the following in your notebook: We will discuss in a class fishbowl on Thursday! BE PREPARED!!

Part II- WRITING... IN YOUR NOTEBOOK or TYPED to ADD TO YOUR NOTEBOOK 

Begin with a  List of Five Adjectives to Describe TRANSFORMATION


Part III- (3 paragraphs) How can others aid in the process of self discovery? Discuss ways in which a person/group of people can help you to discover something within yourself you never thought possible. Was there a time in your life when you were influenced in a positive way? Has this experience transformed you?

Discuss Mike Rose's Article " I Just Wanna Be Average". How does Rose transform? What does he discover in himself and how did this self realization come into fruition? How did MacFarland influence his sense of self and identity?  How can others shape the way we see ourselves? 


Discuss the transformation of sense of self that takes place in Rowan's article. How does he transform? What does he discover about himself? How can influence and perspective change a person's life? In what ways can that happen? How can external influences shape our perspective (understanding of the world)?  Be sure to respond with concrete examples and IN-Text Citation

Make one connection between Rose's article and Rowan's article. Describe one significant aspect they share in common.
